Use of Force Continuum: Comparing Federal and State Standards

This panel discussed how local (non-federal) police officers are trained in terms of when it is appropriate to use force, how much force is authorized and the discretion given to law enforcement to make decisions. We discussed the application of implementing law enforcement’s understanding of the Use of Force Continuum to compare and contrast relevant cases that address the Court’s understanding of reasonableness.
